Dec. 23 Danbury News Times

David Evans, a second-grader at Long Meadow Elementary School, won top honors in New York City's Karate Tournament of Champions this year. The martial arts competition was held at Queens College.
David took first place in point fighting, self defense, open and traditional forms as well as second place in weapons forms making him the top-ranked competitor in the six to seven year-old advanced division for open forms, traditional forms, and fighting in the United States.
David has competing in tournaments since May. In addition to his dedication to competitive karate, David is a member of Team Fox -- part of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research. Raising awareness and money to fight Parkinson's disease is a very personal goal for David; two years ago David's karate instructor was diagnosed with Parkinson's.
David's karate instructor is also his father. David trains with Master William Evans and Laura Nechamkin at the Southbury Parks and Recreation Tae Kwon Do program.
